    Staff at a local manufacturing company got a big surprise when they discovered an unusual animal inside a shipping container from Mexico. The call came in to Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre on the evening of June 16. With no photos available, staff couldn’t identify the animal. Food and water were left overnight for the animal until help could arrive. The next day, volunteer rescuer Greg Oosting visited the site, safely contained the animal, and brought it to Sandy Pines.

    A stolen motorcycle spotted in Yarker has led to three arrests and dozens of charges tied to multiple incidents in Stone Mills Township. On Friday, June 20, 2025, OPP officers with the East Region Community Street Crime Unit were in Yarker on an unrelated matter when they arrested a wanted individual. During that arrest, another wanted person arrived on a motorcycle and tried to flee. After a brief struggle, officers arrested the second suspect and confirmed the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

    Two people are facing impaired driving charges after separate incidents at Sandbanks Provincial Park on Saturday, June 21. Around 6 p.m., park wardens stopped a vehicle inside the park after suspecting the driver had been drinking. Officers from the Prince Edward County OPP detachment arrived and used a roadside screening device. The driver, 24-year-old Siril Kandula of Toronto, was taken to the detachment for further testing.

    A lucky Kingston couple is celebrating a major win after taking home $33,778.50 in the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board’s (ALCDSB) Spring 50/50 raffle. Raymond and Sharrol Morley heard about the raffle on local radio and decided to support the cause. The couple said they enjoy helping out when the money goes back into the community. The total jackpot reached over $67,000, making it one of the biggest fundraisers for the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic Education Foundation.
