A major piece of Ontario’s history will be honoured June 15 during the 241st anniversary of the United Empire Loyalists’ landing at Adolphustown. The event begins at 2 p.m. at the historic St. Alban’s Centre and will feature the world premiere of The Mary Ruttan Story, a locally made documentary starring local student Madeline Gaudet. A service led by Rev. Canon Donald A. Bailey and a community tea will follow the ceremony on the rectory lawn.

Epilepsy South Eastern Ontario (ESEO) will honour its founder, Katherine Manley, with a Legacy Award at its Annual General Meeting on June 10, 2025, at the INVISTA Centre. Manley started Epilepsy Kingston in 1987 after her daughter was diagnosed with epilepsy. At the time, few local resources existed. Motivated by her family’s experience, she launched a support network from her basement so no family would feel alone. Her efforts grew into a regional organization now known as ESEO.

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society wants pet owners to say thank you to their veterinary clinics in this year’s Veterinary Appreciation Contest. Nominations are open until June 8, 2025, at vetappreciation.ca. Then, from June 9 to 15, people can vote for their favourite clinic to win. The clinic with the most votes will receive a plaque of recognition and a free lunch for staff — a small gesture to celebrate those who help keep animals happy and healthy.

Drivers in downtown Napanee should prepare for possible delays as road repairs are scheduled for June 3 (Tuesday) and 4 (Wednesday), 2025. Crews will fix asphalt under warranty on East Street (south of Dundas Street) and Mill Street (between John Street and East Street). Roads will remain open, but traffic disruptions are expected. Weather may impact the schedule. The Town of Greater Napanee is advising residents to use alternate routes where possible.
