Published 12:25 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2025 Claiborne High School hosted the 2025 Claiborne County Career Expo earlier this month. The event featured over 70 vendors representing businesses, colleges and other organizations from all over the community. High school students from both CHS and Cumberland Gap High School were able to meet with as many of the vendors as they liked to learn more about educational and employment opportunities.

Published 1:56 pm Tuesday, May 27, 2025 The Claiborne County Commission approved the Fiscal Year 2025-26 budget appropriations and tax levy at their regular meeting on Monday, May 19. The budget includes a 3-percent raise for all county employees and keeps the property tax rate at $2.34 per $100 of assessed value. Both measures were approved by a vote of 20-1 with Commissioner Whitt Shuford voting no.

Published 10:58 am Thursday, May 22, 2025 The Cumberland Gap Regional Tourism Association held their annual Region Strong Awards Banquet on Tuesday evening at the Olde Church Events Center in Cumberland Gap. Each year the CGRTA board of directors recognizes individuals, businesses, organizations and other groups from the 10-county region who they feel have gone above and beyond to better their community and are firm supporters of tourism and tourism development.

Published 12:30 pm Monday, May 19, 2025 Cumberland Gap senior Levi Thompson has achieved scouting’s highest rank, earning the Eagle Scout award through the Boy Scouts of America Troop #508. Since 1912 the Boy Scouts say just over 2 million scouts have earned the Eagle Scout rank. “Eagle Scouts exemplify the virtues of service, leadership, and duty to God, using their training and influence to better their communities and and the world,” the organization says.

Published 12:34 pm Monday, May 19, 2025 Claiborne County Schools held groundbreaking ceremonies on Thursday for the new career and technical education (CTE) buildings at both Claiborne and Cumberland Gap high schools. “This is a momentous and great day for the students of Claiborne County,” Director of Schools Meredith Arnold said. “One of our goals has been to broaden our CTE program and through this expansion we will now be able to offer additional courses to our students.
