    In praise of editor’s ‘No Kings’ opinion pieceDear editor:I truly appreciated Mick Rhodes’ excellent editorial, “Feeling depressed? Hopeless? Try ‘No King’s’ protest!” [June 13]. It was brief, yet quite panoramic in its characterization of Mr. Trump’s dangerous authoritarian proclivities. Mick was willing both to speak truth to power and to articulate the feelings of the vast majority of current (and former) Claremont residents.

    From July 7 through August 25 the City of Claremont and Kiwanis Club of Claremont will once again combine to host the free Monday night concerts from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd. Cold Duck plays July 7; 33Thunder July 14; Hit Me 90s July 21; Latin Soul Band July 28;  Upstream August 4; Dance Dance Evolution August 11; Michael Ryan and Friends August 18;  and The Answer August 25. Concessions will be offered by the Kiwanis Club.

    Dedication ceremonies marking the completion of the Pomona and La Verne light rail stations along the soon-to-be opened Foothill Gold Line/Metro A Line extension project take place this weekend. The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority invites the public to a free 1:30 p.m. ceremony for the Pomona north station at 205 Santa Fe St. Friday, June 20, followed by a 10 a.m. Saturday, June 21 event for the La Verne/Fairplex station at 2327 Arrow Hwy.

    The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy recently announced it was investing about $1 million for a new scholarship aimed at incoming Claremont Lincoln University students. The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy Scholarship is projected to absorb half the cost of tuition for programs associated with a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership, and masters in organizational leadership, human resources, healthcare administration, or public administration, bringing the cost to under $10,000.

    The City of Claremont’s annual free and open to the public movies in the park series kicks off Tuesday, July 15, with a screening of “Lilo & Stitch” at Lewis Park, 881 Syracuse Dr., followed by “Monsters, Inc.” Thursday, July 17 at June Vail Park, at Grand Avenue and Bluefield Drive;  “The Lorax” Wednesday, July 23 at Wheeler Park, 626 Vista Dr.; and “Mary Poppins” Thursday, July 24 at Memorial Park, 840 N. Indian Hill Blvd.
