Inland Valley Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals hosts its annual Paws 4 Pets Walk fundraiser, a pet-friendly stroll through Bonelli Regional Park, Saturday, April 26 at 9:30 a.m. at 120 E. Via Verde Ave., San Dimas. Registration is $50 at ivhsdogwalk.org. Children under 5 are free. Onsite check-in, T-shirt pick-up, and vendor booths open at 8 a.m. on event day. Pet contests will take place through noon. Proceeds benefit IVHS and SPCA.

They yell out at me every time I go by. I could see them as a gentle encouragement, a friendly reminder. I could see them as a neighborly nudge, a good-natured entreaty. What I see each and every time I pass by is an urgent wake-up call. I literally hear alarms going off.
