Joe Madureira is intrinsically associated with Age of Apocalypse, so it’s sort of a no-brainer that Marvel is having the artist draw variant covers for the upcoming series X-Men of Apocalypse. “I am beyond excited to be dipping back into this corner of the X-Men universe,” Madureira said via a press release. “I was literally a kid when I drew the Astonishing X-Men—it feels like several lifetimes ago, and I want to bring something new to these characters on my covers.

Back in the day, Marvel had their Young Guns, which highlighted up-and-coming artists in the industry. Rather than going to the natural next step — that would be Young Guns II — the publisher established Stormbreakers, which, instead of highlighting up-and-comers, seems to just be whoever the House of Ideas wants to give more work (no shade, please give people more work).
