Homer mayor Pat Clune announced at Tuesday’s board of trustees meeting that the “No Mow May” program will return to the village for a third-straight year. The program welcomes village residents to register their properties by pledging not to mow in May. During the month of May, the village’s code department will be directed to not issue citations for the properties enrolled in the program.

The Village of Homer has announced the date and details for its upcoming Amnesty Day. The village’s Amnesty Day will be on Saturday (April 26) from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the compost site at North Fulton Street. Only village residents are allowed to participate in the drop-off. All residents must bring identification to the site. Residents participating in the drop-off will begin at the village department of public works’ main entrance and exit through the compost site.

The Homer Police Department report stated that last Wednesday (April 16), officers conducted a vehicle and traffic stop on South Main Street in the village. Construction crews have continued work on storm sewer catch basins along Main Street on Monday (April 21). According to an update from Crown City Rising, temporary parking restrictions will be in place. Crews will also begin removing defective concrete sidewalks in select areas. “The city is working closely with the contractor to identify and replace sections that don’t meet project specs,” the update noted. A pickup crashed into a tree in Cortland County during the early-morning hours of Monday (April 21). According to a report from the Marathon Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps (MAVAC), first responders dispatched to a reported motor vehicle crash on McGraw Marathon Road in the town of Marathon. All of the truck’s airbags deployed, the report noted, but an extrication was not required to free the occupants. Two individuals were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center.
County continues to see increase in jobs since last year (Dept. of Labor)

The New York State Department recently announced numbers for private sector jobs in a March 2025 report. According to data, Cortland County saw an increase in 500 jobs between March 2024 and March 2025. The number of jobs in that span has gone from 17,400 to 17,900, which is a 2.9% increase. The Syracuse area added 5,800 jobs in that yearly span. The tally went from 310,200 to 316,000 jobs for a 1.9% increase. The Ithaca area lost 200 jobs, dropping from 52,700 to 52,500 jobs for a 0.4% decrease.
