The Creston Valley Advance is a weekly newspaper located in southeastern British Columbia. Originally launched in 1948 by Alex Carruthers under the name Valley Advert, it was published twice a week until 2003. Since then, it has been a weekly publication that caters to the communities of Creston, Erickson, Lister, Canyon, Yahk, West Creston, and Wynndel, along with the East Shore of Kootenay Lake.

This June marks the 16th anniversary of his weekly column in the Chapleau Express, his beloved hometown newspaper in Ontario. These days, with more limited dexterity, Morris receives help from Swan Valley staff to continue submitting his work — a gesture he says makes all the difference.

    The Creston RCMP are busy as usual, responding to more than 1,000 calls for service in the first quarter of 2025. While the overall number of files has remained steady compared to previous years, there has been a noticeable rise in violent crime. Staff Sgt. Brandon Buliziuk provided an update to council noting 1,042 calls for service logged between January and March, with 547 in the municipality and 495 in the surrounding rural area.

    Creston’s second annual Pride Fest is set to be a day of celebration and connection – with organizers promising an even bigger and better experience than last year. On June 14, the festivities will move to the larger venue of Canyon Park, which also reflects how much local support has grown. “We’re so stoked,” said Sin S., head co-ordinator with OUTspoken. “We’ve amped up the space — five times bigger. There's accessible parking, so the parking problem is beautifully solved.

    A small green space nestled quietly near the heart of Creston became a focal point of local pride and reflection last week. On May 27, residents, town officials, and history enthusiasts gathered to commemorate the original townsite staking location. The spot, known as Staking Park, is tucked away at the corner of 11 Avenue and Cook Street.
