I make jokes about the safety of my apartment, in my friendly-yet-highly-guarded neighborhood, protected by the former warlord of my choice. My team is secure. My daughters’ school relocated. My parents live far from threats. My nephews, my friends, and my loved ones have left the country, or moved to sheltered coasts and mountains.
