MARION -- The Marion High School softball team had no intention of watching history repeat itself Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats erupted for eight runs in the first two innings and rolled to an 11-2 win over Herrin in the IHSA Class 3A Regional Championship game at Marion. Two years ago, the top-seeded Lady Wildcats saw their season reach an unexpected early end when they were stunned by Herrin in the opening round. Marion took away all doubt about Tuesday's game early.

MARION -- The Marion High School baseball team has been finding ways to win games. That has resulted in a 10-game winning streak, the most recent being a 3-2, 10-inning South Seven Conference win over Mt. Vernon Thursday. The win gives Marion a 14-4 overall record and keeps the Wildcats perfect in the South Seven Conference at 4-0. Mt. Vernon fell to 5-12 overall and 2-2 in the South Seven. "It feels nice," said Marion head coach Kyle Geiger.

MARION -- Mt. Vernon senior Marlin Price hit the first of two free throws with no time left in the second overtime to lead the Rams to a stunning 66-65 win over Marion in South Seven Conference boys basketball action. Price was fouled on a rebound attempt as time expired in the second extra session, and calmly sank the first of two free throws. He did not attempt the second free throw. Marion fell to 19-5 overall and 4-2 in the South Seven Conference.

MARION -- The Marion Wildcat boys basketball team left little doubt who would win their Saturday afternoon game against Mt. Carmel. The Wildcats raced to a 27-6 first-quarter lead and never looked back on the way to a 68-25 win. Marion improved to 19-4 with the win, it's best 23-game start in more than 45 years. Mt. Carmel fell to 6-19. "I thought our kids shows some maturity of making Mt. Carmel play at our speed early and taking them out of the game early," said Marion head coach Gus Gillespie.

MARION -- The Marion Wildcat boys basketball team took care of business, beating the Carbondale Terriers 67-53 in a South Seven Conference boys basketball game in Marion. With the win, Marion improved to 18-4 overall and 4-1 in the South Seven Conference. Carbondale fell to 9-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play. "They do hang around with a lot of good teams," said Marion assistant coach Scott McKenty of Carbondale. "They took Mt. Vernon to double overtime at Mt. Vernon.
