CENTRALIA — The Marion High School baseball team erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, sealing back-to-back regional championships with a 9-1 win over the hosts in the Centralia Class 3A Regional. MARION -- The Marion High School softball team had no intention of watching history repeat itself Tuesday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats erupted for eight runs in the first two innings and rolled to an 11-2 win over Herrin in the IHSA Class 3A Regional Championship game at Marion. Two years ago, the top-seeded Lady Wildcats saw their season reach an unexpected early end when they were stunned by Herrin in the opening round. Marion took away all doubt about Tuesday's game early.

MARION, Ill. - The 2024-25 boys basketball season was certainly a historic season at Marion High School. The Wildcat boys did something in the past season that no boys program had done in 37 years. Marion finished 6-2 in the South Seven Conference, clinching a share of the conference title. It was a feat that had not been accomplished since the 1987-88 season. Chemistry, maturity, coachability, ownership, experience, accepting the team role.

MARION -- The Marion High School baseball team has been finding ways to win games. That has resulted in a 10-game winning streak, the most recent being a 3-2, 10-inning South Seven Conference win over Mt. Vernon Thursday. The win gives Marion a 14-4 overall record and keeps the Wildcats perfect in the South Seven Conference at 4-0. Mt. Vernon fell to 5-12 overall and 2-2 in the South Seven. "It feels nice," said Marion head coach Kyle Geiger.

Vernon senior Marlin Price hit the first of two free throws with no time left in the second overtime to lead the Rams to a stunning 66-65 win over Marion in South Seven Conference boys basketball action. Price was fouled on a rebound attempt as time expired in the second extra session, and calmly sank the first of two free throws. He did not attempt the second free throw. Marion fell to 19-5 overall and 4-2 in the South Seven Conference.
