Clarification and correctionThe current budget now under consideration by the Rutherford county commissioners, includes a 5.67% increase in the local budget for Rutherford County Schools (RCS). This is $1 million more than in this year's local current expense budget. The previous budget submitted by the county manager called for a 37.87% increase for RCS, but was rejected by the county commissioners.

SPINDALE—The United States of America is a nation in distress, according to those who participated in the anti-Trump protest Saturday in downtown Spindale. This event, the fifth organized by Shannon Sims, took place along Main Street in front of the Spindale House. Sims said Monday that when she started organizing the first event, she did not now how many would participate, or how much interest there would be.

SPINDALE—Spindale was the site of not one, but two groups of passionate individuals exercising their freedom of expression Saturday. While the fifth anti-Trump protest was held on Main Street in front of the Spindale House, the local Republican Party sponsored a “Rolling Trump Rally,” which led a parade of vehicles through Main Street. The pro-Trump group drove right past the anti-Trump protesters. Rutherford county commissioner Mike Benfield was among those in the pro-Trump group.

East Rutherford is back on top of the 2A high school baseball world. The school won it's seventh baseball state championship Saturday in Burlington sweeping the South Lenoir Blue Devils in two games to claim the title, winning game one Friday night 4-3, and dominating game two Saturday with an 11-0 shutout. The title is the first since 2016, and the first under head coach Drew Reynolds. The previous six state championship teams at East were coached by Bobby Dale Reynolds, Drew's father.

SPINDALE — Rutherford Stage, formerly known as the Rutherford County Arts Council, has announced the cast for the upcoming performance of “Night of 1,000 Stars, a Musical Revue.”The show will be presented at 7 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, at The Foundation Performing Arts Center on the campus of Isothermal Community College in Spindale. According to Rutherford Stage executive director Laura Link, this production is directed by Tyler Graeper.
