FOREST CITY—Two men are facing drug trafficking charges after a traffic stop Monday evening. Around 6 p.m., detectives with the Tri-City Violent Crimes Task Force stopped Jameson Darren Jones and Timothy Lamont Hill in the Pizza Hut parking lot in Forest City. According to police, Jones, who was driving, consented to a vehicle search. As Hill exited the vehicle, detectives believed they saw something that appeared to be concealed in Hill’s pants. Hill gave consent to being searched.

RUTHERFORDTON—Rutherfordton property owners will receive a higher tax bill if the budget proposed Wednesday night is approved. The budget recommended by town manager Doug Barrick, calls for a tax increase of 8.5 percent. Barrick told the town council that the increase will permit the town to keep pace with rising costs and modernize key equipment. The total general fund budget is $6,337,257.

SHELBY — Several golfers from Rutherford County had great showings at this week’s 2A regional golf competition in Shelby, with two teams qualifying for the state championship. East Rutherford finished second to Pine Lake Prep with a score of 317. Pine Lake posted a 308. R-S Central tied for third with Bandys with 328. Both finishes were enough for both schools to qualify for the state championship, which will be begin next week.
