FOREST CITYThe East Rutherford Cavaliers are returning to the diamond with a conference championship in their sights in 2024 after sliding in behind Chase by one game in 2023. Similar to their county rivals, the Cavaliers had to say goodbye to a plethora of talent but will return some key playmakers to that will make a championship possible. Two of the big names leaving the Cavaliers played a big role on the mound for them as well in Mason Huffstickler and Avery Strange.

RUTHERFORDTON — With the start time moved up to 4 p.m. On Good Friday, many R-S Central softball fans thought their matchup with the McDowell Titans would get them home in time to cook dinner. That was not the case as an old fashioned pitchers' dual unfolded, pushing the game to the 13th inning where McDowell would squeeze out the 4-3 victory. When the dust settled, the Lady Hilltoppers out hit the Lady Titans fairly well racking up 12 hits and reaching base 21 times through the long night.

RUTHERFORDTON — For the first time since the 2008 spring track season, R-S Central hosted their own track meet, and it couldn't have went any better. Thanks to the generous donation of concrete to upgrade facilities and a brand new eight lane rubber track, the Hilltoppers hope for this to be a recurring event for the near future.

FOREST CITY — It was a superhero story at East Rutherford Thursday, March 21, when seniors Cagney Pruett and Alexis Chapman crushed back-to-back home runs to start a comeback. After going down to a 4-0 deficit to the Brevard Blue Devils, the energy shift catapulted the Lady Cavs behind ace-like pitching from Chloe Adair to storm out to a 10-5 victory. This was a crucial win for the Lady Cavs after they fell to the Blue Devils 5-2 on Tuesday, March 19.

RUTHERFORDTON — When Deborah Chapman retired and moved to Rutherford County in 2018, she began working part time at Harris Motor Speedway to fill her time and enjoy retirement. But not long after she began working at Harris, whose motto is “where Family, Friends and Fun come together,” Chapman found her mission once again. From 1998 to 2018 when she retired, Chapman was the president of Racers Against Drugs (RAD) in San Diego, California.
