“It was always Liverpool.”The words of our captain as he signed his new contract this week, dedicating the next two years of his career to Anfield. A pretty cool line, although let’s be honest, it would’ve been nice if he’d admitted as much about six months ago. Nevertheless, he’s staying. He made us wait, but who cares? We get to watch him waltz around the pitch without breaking a sweat for another two seasons. Great.

Well, after months and months of floating in a state of flux, it looks like we finally know what’s going on with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Barring any late changes of heart, the latter seems destined to join Real Madrid, with the other two staying on Merseyside. Excellent news. Not quite perfect, but it could have been much worse. Let’s get into it. So Alexander-Arnold is obviously the most valuable of the three, purely because of his age.

Look, I’d love to deconstruct what happened against Fulham, I really would. The people want answers. But football is a stupid sport sometimes, and I’m really not sure how much you can legislate for stepping on a rake three times in 14 minutes. Liverpool lost their first Premier League away match of the season on the weekend, ending their 26-game unbeaten run with a 3-2 defeat at Craven Cottage, despite scoring the first goal of the contest. Sometimes, you concede as a result of a structural issue.
