So I recorded one of my mini podcasts outside Anfield last night. It was an immediate reaction to Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal — which you can listen to here — with the main focus being atmosphere within the stadium. That isn’t a very on-brand topic for this Substack. We spent the whole chat talking about booing. Again, not very Distance Covered. Too intangible. But it was interesting nevertheless, mainly because of the weirdness surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold right now.

Another edition of my mini podcast. The idea is a 10-minute chat reacting to any breaking news on the scene. Casual, immediate and informal. This time, I was joined by Chloe Bloxam and Chris Pajak from The Redmen TV to talk about how Anfield reacted to Trent Alexander-Arnold’s introduction as a substitute against Arsenal. So I saw Liverpool get linked with Morgan Rogers this week. I like Rogers, he’s good. The Aston Villa starlet is only 22 years old. He’s started 34 from a possible 35 matches in the Premier League this term, scoring and assisting 16 goals. Rogers can run, too. He’s very athletic, tall and industrious. Great carrier of the ball. There’s lots to like. I saw Liverpool get linked to Adam Wharton, too. I like Wharton, he’s good. The Crystal Palace fulcrum depicts shades of Michael Carrick.

Episode #063 covers Trent Alexander-Arnold’s confirmed departure this summer, potential replacements, and Liverpool’s 3-1 loss against Chelsea. Liverpool are guaranteed to get worse without Alexander-Arnold, right? Could Richard Hughes sign Pedro Porro to replace him? Which Premier League player — not named Ola Aina — could act as a stopgap option for free this summer?

There once lived a man who had all the makings of a top defender. He was a centre-back by trade, standing pretty tall — around 6-foot-2 — while possessing an elaborate passing range which made him ideal for the modern game. He was aggressive, vocal, decent in the air and represented his country at the highest level, but there was just one problem. And a pretty sizeable one at that. The man in question, for all of his strengths, was essentially cursed. He was born with the dreaded Bozo Gene.
