With advanced air filters and strict cleaning routines, the International Space Station (ISS) is one of the cleanest places beyond Earth. Yet astronauts often experience a range of health issues while aboard. A new study suggests that one reason may be that the ISS is too clean! Plastic pollution is one of the world's most pressing environmental challenges. A large portion of the 400 million tons of plastic produced annually ends up in landfills or the ocean. Unlike organic waste, conventional plastic never decomposes. Instead, it breaks down into tiny pieces called microplastics. These particles contaminate water, soil, and air, harming marine life, livestock, and even humans.
