Dubawa

DUBAWA stands as Nigeria's pioneering independent project dedicated to verification and fact-checking. Launched by the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ), it has the backing of leading news organizations and civic groups throughout the country. Its goal is to enhance the culture of truth in public discussions, policy-making, and journalistic practices. This initiative maintains a non-partisan stance, adhering strictly to principles of accuracy, fairness, transparency, verification, independence, and accountability in all its endeavors. Our operations are influenced by the five guiding principles set forth by the International Fact Checking Network (IFCN). DUBAWA aims to foster a culture of truth and verification in both public discourse and journalism through collaborations with media outlets, government entities, civil society organizations, tech companies, and the general public. We operate under the belief that access to factual information empowers individuals to make better decisions in a democratic setting and on matters of public interest. By providing verified information, we aim to enhance good governance and accountability. Moreover, we recognize that trust and credibility in journalism have diminished, largely due to insufficient investment and the challenges posed by social media. We believe that an independent media initiative, by delivering accurate information and strengthening the capacity of newsrooms through partnerships, can help restore the trust that has been lost. This year, DUBAWA has also extended its efforts to Ghana, aiming to further bolster accountability and democracy throughout the West African region.
