In Sarah Forbes Stewart’s “Aren’t We Lucky,” we meet two young women: one friendly, frumpy, introverted, and the other outgoing, charismatic, and wealthy. We immediately skip two decades, and the charismatic one is dead. It was an accident, despite constant rumours to the contrary. At this point, I settled down for the expected murder mystery. I was sure our frumpy friend, Abby, would, one way or another, start to pick up clues to suggest that wealthy friend, Hetty, had been killed.

I know I’m committing to a neverending update post with “Best burgers in Edinburgh”. The fact is that I’ve eaten loads of burgers in Edinburgh, but restaurants ebb and wane, and there are new challengers almost every week. What follows is in rough order and curated with appropriate harshness. Leith WalkGirdy made the Side Street opening event and has been back many times since.

I did two dangerous things, and both worked out. Firstly, I went to see The Dead South on the strength of one song. “In Hell, I’ll Be in Good Company” is good! However, it didn’t work out well the last time I did that. The second dangerous thing was to “settle” for one of the last remaining seats in The Usher Hall. I can eat a lot. I have a big mouth. Let me show you what my big mouth can get me/you! @edinburghreviews It’s a two-for-one as Girdy’s #review of the best place to picnic in #Edinburgh also includes a hungry look at Afternoon Teabox. My picnic was kindly provided for free! ♬ original sound – Edinburgh Reviews For Mother’s Day (on the 30th!), Afternoon Teabox is having a competition.

I was relatively sober for Seven Drunken Nights at the Usher Hall but did succumb to both a whisky (Scottish, not Irish) and a beer (local, not global) at the interval. Seven Drunken Nights is the story of the Dubliners, an Irish band with global success from the 60s and 70s. Do you have to be a superfan to enjoy the show? No. I can attest to that. In fact, I worried that I knew too little about the group and would be out of my depth. I wasn’t.
