eJewish Philanthropy, often referred to as eJP, is a publication that focuses on news related to Jewish philanthropy. Established in 2007 by Dan Brown, eJP became part of Jewish Insider in January 2021. The mission of eJP is to engage, connect, and lead daily discussions in the Jewish philanthropic community through original news articles and insightful commentary on critical topics. By showcasing new and influential leaders, we strive to broaden the dialogue surrounding Jewish philanthropy.

An initial surge of pride and solidarity after Oct. 7, 2023 has been quickly joined, especially since the 2024 U.S. election, by the realization that we do not all see the world the same — that what is a solution to one is a problem to another. Resentment, fear and vulnerability are rising, and congregational rabbis and presidents are feeling the push and pull of these emotional currents (though they are not the only ones) as Jews of different persuasions try to share the same communal space.

Thirty years ago, Lloyd Goldman and his sisters, Katja Goldman Sonnenfeldt and Dorian Goldman Israelow, were looking for a way to honor their father, Irving Goldman, after his death, and their mother, Joyce, who had died 16 years prior. Their parents had long supported Jewish causes, as well as healthcare systems, so the answer came quickly: a donation to Ben-Gurion University of the Negev’s medical school, which would be renamed the Joyce and Irving Goldman Medical School.
