Many workplaces are “a potential hotbed of discriminatory behaviour, with people’s age, appearance and gender often being used against them in work settings”. A survey of 4,000 UK adults, commissioned by HR software provider Ciphr, found that nearly half (45%) have experienced unfair discrimination while at work or when job-hunting. Of those, nearly two-fifths (38%) say they have been discriminated against at work.

Commercial landlords and property managers under pressure to meet sustainability targets are “increasingly turning to third-party leases that are sold as attractive alternatives for landlords or tenants who don’t have the capital to invest in rooftop solar themselves”, observes an industry expert. A group of 13 Labour Party MPs and one Green MP are pushing for a four-day working week to be included in the government's flagship employment rights bill. They have also tabled an amendment that would commit the government to exploring a wider transition across the economy from a five-day working week to a four-day working week, with no impact on pay.
