Keynoter Publishing Co. runs two local newspapers in the Florida Keys: the Keynoter and The Reporter. They also operate a digital platform, FlKeysNews (flkeysnews.com), for both publications and produce unwind, a quarterly lifestyle magazine that caters to the entire Monroe County. The Reporter is a weekly publication that focuses on news in the Upper Keys, spanning from Layton to the southern part of Miami-Dade County. The Keynoter, which comes out twice a week, covers news across all the Keys. Both newspapers are part of the McClatchy Co. and are subsidiaries of the Miami Herald Media Co., with teams of reporters and sales personnel located in Key West, Marathon, and the Upper Keys. With around 24 staff members working from offices in Marathon and Tavernier, these newspapers not only cover Monroe County but also assist the Miami Herald in delivering comprehensive news about the Florida Keys and South Florida. The newspapers have consistently been recognized as some of the best in Florida, receiving numerous awards from the Florida Press Association for their design and writing. Their reporting on fishing and diving in the Florida Keys and nearby waters has earned them notable acclaim.

An office stabbing in Key West likely would have been much worse had it not been for a 65-year-old man putting himself in harm’s way to protect his colleague and getting stabbed in the back, witnesses and police say. The Wednesday afternoon attack started with an estranged boyfriend coming to the office to harass the mother of his child about custody visits, even though he had to stay away due to a domestic violence court order against him, according to police.

Two Homestead men were given notices to appear in court after a Florida Keys deputy found them with dead parrotfish Monday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy Willie Guerra, one of the sheriff’s office’s well-known marine patrol deputies, was making the rounds around 2:45 p.m. on Memorial Day when he saw the men fishing from the Long Key Bridge in the Upper Keys near Marathon.

At least five people were injured after a boat collided with the Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys, the Monroe County officials said Sunday. The injured were airlifted to hospitals in Miami-Dade after the collision around 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, according to the fire department and sheriff’s office. The Keys Weekly reported the crash victims’ injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.
