Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a gunman who fatally shot a man and wounded the man’s son in North Lauderdale Monday night. The shooting happened around 7 p.m. near the 900 block of Southwest 81st Avenue, where investigators say 44-year-old Marlon Samuels was arguing with another man. The argument turned into a fight, and the man pulled out a gun and shot Marlon Samuels several times before shooting his son, 20-year-old Mikyle Samuels, said BSO spokeswoman Gerdy St. Louis.

A Monroe County grand jury on Tuesday indicted three high-level Key West officials on charges related to obstructing an ongoing criminal investigation into how the Southernmost City’s manager was fired last summer. City Attorney Ronald Ramsingh, Code Compliance Director James Young and Building Department Director Rajindhar Ransingh are all charged, according to the Monroe County State Attorney’s Office.

A very small, orphaned manatee calf is headed to Orlando for rehabilitation after being rescued Tuesday by concerned boaters and a fish and wildlife officer in the Florida Keys. Shannon and Alex Constantinides were heading out to the flats off Key Largo Tuesday morning to target smaller backcountry fish. Shannon, 42, recently had back surgery and didn’t want to risk injuring herself in rougher, deeper water, or by pulling up a big tarpon on the flats.

Miami Gardens police on Tuesday arrested the man they say shot his mother-in-law the day before. Police say 49-year-old Bilal Ismail shot his mother-in-law at a house at the 4400 Block of NW 203rd Terrace Monday morning around 11:30 a.m. before driving off in a blue Ford F-15 pickup truck. The University of Miami closed one of its science buildings after people noticed a strange odor in the air Tuesday afternoon, according to police. Coral Gables police said there was a “gas/chemical odor” in the Cox Science building, prompting it to be evacuated and a perimeter to be set up to keep people away from the Memorial Drive property. Detective Michelle Christensen, a police spokeswoman, said there were no injuries associated with the incident.
