Work has begun on a knockdown rebuild of Shell Playing Place on the A39 near Truro. According to Cornwall Live, the site has already been reduced to rubble. An initial planning application was approved by Cornwall Council early last year but since then an updated application from Shell has been approved. The redevelopment will include a bigger shop, a new forecourt area for cars and HGVs, new underground fuel tanks, pumps and canopies, car parking and an EV charging hub.

Source: Google Street Maps Newport City Council has refused plans to turn a service garage and car sales business back to its original use as a forecourt. The Council said the application for the site in High Cross Road, Rogerstone, Newport contained insufficient information on how the change of use would affect local roads. The authority was also concerned about the ‘significant adverse impact’ it would have on existing retailers in the area.

Fast growing forecourt operator Muresh Seevaratnam has acquired Churn Valley Service Station, his 12th site, and his third purchased this year. His latest acquisition, a Gulf forecourt with an unbranded shop, is at Colesbourne in the Cotswolds. It was previously owned by the Elwes family who have thousands of acres of land in the area as part of their Colesbourne Estate. Amelia Elwes, who has run the forecourt for 20 years, wants to retire.

ACS has welcomed a letter from energy minister Dr Miatta Fahnbulleh MP, announcing that the requirement for retailers to report on their fuel availability as part of the upcoming Fuel Finder scheme will be postponed. The Government aims to launch the Fuel Finder scheme by the end of 2025. When the scheme is launched, retailers will be required to report on the retail prices of all types of petrol and diesel, as well as reporting on changes in those prices within 30 minutes.

Uber and C40 Cities have agreed to an international partnership to help cities – including London – significantly boost access to charging infrastructure. The C40 programme will work across three cities – London, Boston and Phoenix – to facilitate the uptake of EVs by high-mileage drivers. It is projected to benefit over 55,000 Uber drivers who currently lack access to affordable and convenient charging. Uber has surveyed drivers on their willingness to switch to an EV. since 2021.
