Her primary teaching focus was mathematics, mostly eighth grade and pre-algebra, though she has also taught seventh grade. “Ever since I was little, that’s what I wanted to do,” Townley said of her decision to teach.

    RUSSELLVILLE Russellville High School graduate Ella Goggans will continue her cheerleading journey beyond high school, thanks to a scholarship from the University of North Alabama, Goggans began cheering for Russellville in seventh grade and has been involved in all-star competitive cheer since the fourth grade. She served as varsity cheer captain during her senior year. “Cheerleading is the type of sport that helps you grow — not only physically, but also mentally,” Goggans said.

    Mildred Hood, a resident of Terrace Manor in Russellville, was born May 20, 1925. She turned 100 years old on May 20, 2025. She went to school in Wigginton-Hackleburg and married Cecil Hood when she was “barely 18” around January 1, 1941. Her hobbies have included sewing, reading and working in the garden. She is most proud of her four children – Vernon, Janice, Elaine and Terry. Growing up, her favorite playtime activity was playing with paper dolls.

    The Waco Rural Acres Garden Club was established in the fall of 1974. There were 16 charter members. Agnes Sugg served as its first president. Doris Bowling and Sherry Hester Holland are the only two of the 16 charter members still living. Waco is a small community and most of the garden club members are related to each other. They are dedicated to making their community noted for its beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens and other contributions.
