The first week of qualifying for the Aug. 26 municipal elections in Franklin County saw 23 make their campaigns official, 14 of them incumbents. Prospective candidates who haven’t qualified have until 5 p.m. on June 24 to do so. As of June 13, no candidates had qualified in either Hodges or Vina. In Russellville, 11 have qualified for the six positions up for grabs.

PHIL CAMPBELL — A resident is facing multiple drug charges, including drug trafficking, after law enforcement confiscated eight firearms and at least 2 ounces of crystal methamphetamines while executing a search warrant Thursday afternoon. Police and sheriff’s deputies executed the warrant at a residence on Maddox Road, which is less than two miles from the high school, according to Police Chief Jessica Clements.

RUSSELLVILLE — The public library launched its 2025 summer reading program, “Color Our World,” with a fun-filled kickoff event on Friday. Children received reading logs to track 20 minutes of daily reading throughout the summer. Those who meet their reading goals will get to choose a prize from the library’s treasure box at the next event. The kickoff included face painting by Shirley Jimenez, refreshing treats from Sub-Zero Shaved Ice, and a creative bookmarkmaking station.
