Gut Altentann Golf Club HistoryTucked into the peaceful countryside near Salzburg, Gut Altentann Golf Club holds quite a past—one where centuries of history blend seamlessly with the spirit of the game. The story goes all the way back to 1243, when the estate—then known as “von Tann”—was first mentioned as a fortified castle. It sat on the front lines of medieval power struggles between Bavarian and Salzburg nobles.

The U.S. Open takes place at Oakmont in a few weeks’ time and 12 LIV Golfers have already secured their spot at the third major of the year. LIV Golfers Lee Westwood and Richard Bland failed to mount a Sunday challenge at the 2025 Senior PGA Championship. Westwood was playing in just his second senior major, having finished in a tie for 31st at the 2024 Senior U.S. Open. Bland has enjoyed more success, however. Last year, he claimed both the Senior PGA and U.S. Open. Remarkably, these were his first two events on the tour. At Congressional last week, the pair finished T25 and T14 respectively.

Scottie Scheffler won his third major championship at the PGA Championship last week, defeating LIV Golfers Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau down the stretch at Quail Hollow. There are no weeks off for the World No.1, who is back in action at the Charles Schwab Challenge on the PGA Tour. Of course, Rahm and DeChambeau wont be his opponents in Texas. Ahead of the tournament, Scheffler was asked a couple of LIV-related questions.

LIV Golfer and 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia wont play at the U.S. Open this year at Oakmont after failing to qualify. The Spaniard hasn’t missed the tournament since 1999, finishing in the top-ten five times during that run. He took part in the final qualifying event at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, but rounds of 65 and 71 meant he fell one stroke short of a playoff. If he had made par on the final hole, Garcia would have entered a seven-for-one playoff for a spot at Oakmont.
