PARIS—A key milestone for the Pentagon’s program to upgrade the F-35 engine has been pushed back a year, raising questions about the overall timeline of the effort. The engine upgrade will reach “critical design review,” a milestone that essentially closes the design phase of the program, by “mid-next year,” according to Jill Albertelli, president of military engines for Pratt & Whitney—a year later than Pratt previously estimated.

Voyager Technologies has fetched roughly $383 million in an upsized initial public offering, where demand for stock in the defense and space systems maker ran hotter than originally anticipated. In the company’s Wednesday debut on the New York Stock Exchange, Voyager sold 12.3 million shares at $31 each to exceed the original range of $26-to-$29 marketed to investors at first. Voyager originally planned to offer 11 million shares.

AndurilNow the poster child for defense tech startup success, Anduril is looking to do even more for national security agencies with its newly fetched $2.5 billion in Series G capital. Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund wrote the largest check in its history at $1 billion and led the round, Anduril chairman and co-founder Trae Stephens told Bloomberg TV on Thursday at the publication’s tech summit in San Francisco. Founders Fund also led Anduril’s $1.5 billion Series F round that closed in August.

The Air Force is resurrecting its boost-glide missile program—an effort first launched to much fanfare in August 2018, only to see mixed results in testing and ultimately lose support from service leadership amid investment in alternative missiles. The AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon, or ARRW, is one of two hypersonic concepts the Air Force is developing now, service head Gen. David Allvin told lawmakers Thursday.
