Last week, we visited the newly refurbished Rutland & Derby in Leicester. This May marks 15 years since Sam Hagger and the Beautiful Pubs team took it on, and what a stunning job they’ve done in evolving this city centre pub into an impressively stylish space. It’s a full refurbishment, featuring a sophisticated colour scheme, more drinking areas, completely refreshed loos (they really are impressive), lots of leather and stunning glass lights throughout.

If you’re searching for a bakery that offers artisan treats while making a difference in the community, look no further than The Dusty Knuckle Bakery. Our editor-at-large, Philip, who lives in London, recommends it as a must-visit for any bakery enthusiast. Recently, we had the pleasure of returning to The Griffin Inn in Swithland for an evening meal. Set in the heart of Leicestershire, this pub – run by former England cricketers Stuart Broad and Harry Gurney in partnership with Everards – has evolved into a sophisticated dining destination thanks to a recent no-expense-spared refurb. We chose the flat iron steak. Cooked to perfection at medium-rare, it was juicy and bursting with flavour.
