Non-Residents Can Legally Apply For California Carry Permits

Thanks to a preliminary injunction in the Second Amendment Foundation’s (SAF) case CRPA v. LASD, non-resident SAF members can now apply for a California carry permit. The injunction requires that California accept permit applications from any United States resident outside the state who is a member of SAF or its partner organizations and not prohibited from possessing firearms.

Gunowners’ rights organizations promised a fight after Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a new law that infringes on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens in his state. The law takes full effect in August 1, 2026. Gov. Polis signed SB25-003 into law, and it bans the sale of the AR- and AK-style rifles unless Coloradans obtain approval from their county sheriff. The permit-to-purchase affects semiautomatic firearms capable of accepting detachable magazines.
Young Adults Can Now Receive Carry Permits in Minnesota

I love your publication; it always impresses me with the thoroughness of your tests. However, when you test a gun, you always downgrade it if you have malfunctions (failure to feed, failure to eject, etc.) I have owned many S&W M&P pistols in 9mm and 45 ACP. I have found them to be reliable and easy to take down. However, when I bought my first 9mm Shield, it always failed to eject a round in every magazine I loaded. Different ammunition made no difference.

Some members of the Houston test group are involved in teaching the Texas License To Carry class. The instruction includes a great deal of information about requirements for carry in Texas and the law regarding usage of those firearms. We also get asked about the best guns for carry. We tell them 1) the gun has to go bang, 2) it has to hit what they point it at, and 3) it needs to be sufficiently powerful. We normally recommend a minimum of 380 ACP.
