Odin: Valhalla Rising releases globally for PC and mobile on April 29th. Developed by the South Korean developer Lionheart Studio, MMORPG fans can pre-register now, with preloading available on the 28th. As the name implies, Oden: Valhalla Rising transports players to a seamless open world inspired by Norse mythology. The Norse god Odin has banished Loki to the mortal realm after receiving a vision that the trickster god would soon bring about the apocalypse, Ragnarok.
Once Human Launches Cross-Platform Test for Mobile & PC

NetEase Games announced on Friday that it has begun mobile and PC cross-platform testing for its multiplayer action survival game Once Human. Developed by NetEase’s Starry Studio, the free-to-play game launched for PC last summer, with iOS and Android ports in development. The cross-platform test is available for North American, European and Japanese users. PC, Android and iOS users can sign up for the test by completing the official survey.

Habby released the original Archero in 2019 and had a major success on their hands. However, nothing lasts forever, and it’s time to see if the sequel, Archero 2, lives up to its predecessor’s legacy. If you’ve played Archero or its various imitators, you should already be familiar with the basic concept. You control a lone archer fighting through multiple stages of enemies from a top-down perspective. Each time you level up, you can choose between three upgrades in typical roguelike fashion.

The venerable Wizardry series originated with Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord on the Apple II in 1981. While comparatively obscure now, it had a massive influence on the JRPG genre, with its descendants including Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and Dragon Quest, among others. Merge Mansion developer Metacore recently announced the appointment of Brent Blazek as the game’s new Growth Lead. Blazek has prior experience in product and marketing synergy, live operations, and data science with companies including Candy Crush developer King. Metacore says his appointment is a “key step” in the company’s long-term plans. Merge Mansion is a match-two puzzle game released in September 2020.
Balatro for Android Review

Balatro is a good game. Sorry for spoiling the ending in the first act, but there is a decent chance you already knew that. Solo developer LocalThunk originally released their roguelike deck builder on PC in February 2024, with publisher Playstack releasing it for Android in September. If you’re even casually plugged into the indie game space, avoiding the hype around this breakout hint is hard. I’m pleased to say that Balatro’s Android port lives up to that hype.

Hack-and-slash action RPG UNDECEMBER launched its Trials of Power update last week. The update adds new monsters, events, resources and more to help players level their characters faster. The new content includes an Arena where players can battle powerful monsters such as the Manticor and Ectasis featured in the update’s trailer. These elite enemies will drop a new growth material called Soul Stone, which players can use to enhance their characters.
Tower Defense Game Sphere Defense Out Now

Indie mobile game developer Tomnoki launched Sphere Defense: Tower Defense last month. The game draws inspiration from the 2008 iOS game geoDefense, which the creator of Sphere Defense was greatly impressed by. This is their first game development project, and it is free-to-play with no in-game purchases, though it does contain ads. Sphere Defense features retro-inspired neon graphics, resulting in an immediately striking visual aesthetic.
Grimguard Tactics Review

Developed by the New Zealand-based studio Outerdawn, Grimguard Tactics is a dark-fantasy turn-based tactics RPG. While my first instinct is to describe it as a fusion of a Fire Emblem and Warhammer, the aesthetics also remind me more than a little of Darkest Dungeon. The game opens with a party of heroes fighting through the undead minions of the fallen hero, Victor. They are too late, however, and Victor has completed his deal with the Lovecraftian entities known as the Primorvans.
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince for Android Review

Developed by Tose and published by Square Enix, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince arrived on Android last month after debuting for Nintendo Switch in 2023. While technically the seventh installment in the RPG series’ Pokémon-esque monster collecting spinoff, it’s the first DQM game to launch in the West in over a decade. The Dark Prince is a prequel and side-story to the 1990 NES game Dragon Quest 4.
