Special to the Enquirer Sylas Schroeder, 16, will be heading to Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico this month for training. Schroeder was chosen to attend and train with USAF Pararescuemen for a week in June. Fascinated by special forces since childhood, Schroeder said he plans to pursue a career in Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) as a Pararescueman, dedicated to saving lives in the toughest conditions. Schroeder will be a senior at Hartselle High School this fall.

She helped lead the Lions softball team to a third-place finish in the NJCAA softball World Series in Yuma, Ariz. “Going to the World Series was an incredible experience, and finishing third in the country was a great way to end a fantastic season,” Kaelyn Jones said. “We’re not done yet. Most of this team is coming back, and we know what it takes now.

For the EnquirerSuccess and championships are synonymous with Hartselle’s baseball program. To be successful, you need to have notable players, and the Tigers were recently honored by having seven players named to the ASWA 6A All-State baseball team. Leading the way is senior Jace Meadows, who was named to the first team and also the 6A Pitcher of the Year. He finished the season with a 12-2 record with a 0.94 ERA and 90 strikeouts.

For the EnquirerTwo Hartselle athletes were named to the AHSAA North-South rosters for All-Star week in July. Juniors Cole Miles and Katie Norgard were named to the North baseball and softball rosters. Miles, who has committed to Jax State, helped lead the Tigers to their 10th state championship in school history. Norgard, who has committed to Georgia Tech, has been a standout for the Tigers’ softball program since her freshman season. All-Star week is July 21-24 in Montgomery.
