Jun. 3—It was a special season for two local baseball teams, the Hartselle Tigers and Lawrence County Red Devils. Despite having to replace 11 seniors from last year's team, Hartselle raced right back to the Class 6A state finals, winning the program's 10th state championship. AdvertisementLawrence County also had a big season. The Red Devils reached the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008, upsetting No. 1 Springville along the way.

Players of the year: Jace Meadows, Hartselle, Sr; and Parker Frost, Lawrence County, Sr.: Meadows was Hartselle's ace and posted a 12-2 record with an 0.94 ERA and 90 strikeouts. Frost was a do-it-all player for the Red Devils hitting .467 with 36 RBIs, 26 stolen bases and seven home runs. He also had a 7-3 record on the mound with seven saves and posted a 2.49 ERA with 42 strikeouts.

May 31—It takes great players to win a state championship. That seems to be the consensus at least as Hartselle, fresh off its 10th state championship in school history, was well represented on this year's Alabama Sportswriters Association All-State baseball team. AdvertisementHartselle had seven of its players selected to the team, including senior Jace Meadows who was named Class 6A Pitcher of the Year. First-year head coach Brad Phillips was also named Class 6A Coach of the Year.

Hatton has hired Nikita Stover to be the school's new head football coach per the school's Facebook page. Stover spent the last 2 seasons at Decatur Heritage, making the playoffs each year and winning the region in 2023.
