Harvard Independent

Harvard is not our landlord, and our reporting isn’t limited by the fast-paced news cycle. We don’t adhere to any single ideology in our editorials. The Indy was established in 1969 in response to student protests that highlighted the need for a more balanced media landscape. A group of undergraduate students founded us, many of whom have since contributed to some of the country’s top publications and launched significant media platforms. Since our inception, we have been dedicated to offering alternative perspectives and a thorough approach to every topic we cover.

Tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Smith Campus Center is the first exhibit of four in-person, diverse collections of multimedia artwork: the Harvard Staff Art Show. Close to 400 pieces from 242 artists, all Harvard University staff members, were submitted to be displayed in person for this year’s four shows. The first show took place from March 11 to March 26 and offered Harvard staff an avenue to display their artistic talents, from oil paintings to knitted hats to woodwork clocks.

Picture this: It’s the end of July, 5 p.m., and you just received your dorm assignment. After the typical 30-minute stalk that leads you to your new roommate’s 5th-grade chorus concert video, you parcel through dorm facts to find out what kind of room and bathroom set-up you will have. A communal bathroom, though shared […]

Around this time last February, my eyes sprung open as the morning light flooded my 10 ft. x 10 ft. dorm room. Icy wind chilled the side of my body through the window I intentionally placed next to the head of my bed and cracked open as far as dorm regulations would allow. I hated shades, I hated stuffy air, and I loved the daily invasion of sunlight and winter breeze preceding my morning alarm each day.
