HBCU CONNECT began its journey in 1999, started by Hampton University alum William Roger Moss III. He teamed up with another HBCU graduate and entrepreneur, E. Shawn Starks, to launch the first social network aimed specifically at African Americans, which was initially called "hbcu-central.com." The idea was simple yet impactful: to create a valuable social platform for HBCU graduates that allowed them to share photos and connect with each other!
