Healthcare Leader

Healthcare Leader is dedicated to aiding decision-makers within the NHS as they work on transforming health and social care in their communities. Given the current difficulties facing the healthcare sector, Healthcare Leader provides a space for local NHS and government leaders to exchange creative solutions to the financial and care-related issues they encounter. By integrating The Commissioning Review, a top publication for clinical commissioning groups, Healthcare Leader will expand its audience to include others in the health sector, such as local government officials, Vanguard projects, and those involved in Sustainability and Transformation (STP) initiatives.

The ban on single-use vapes has come into effect as of yesterday (1 June), meaning it is now illegal to sell or supply single-use vapes in the UK. The ban applies to all businesses and organisations that sell or supply disposable vapes, including healthcare settings and stop smoking services. Organisations have been told to arrange for any leftover stock of these vapes to be recycled. The ban is intended to limit children’s access to cheap vapes, as well as reduce their environmental impact.

New radiotherapy machines that will deliver up to 27,500 additional treatments per year are being rolled out across England. The government has paid for linear accelerator (LINAC) machines, which will be rolled out at 28 hospitals from August (see box). Replacing older machines will save as many as 13,000 appointments from being lost to equipment breakdown. The upgraded tech can cut the rounds of radiotherapy needed and, in some cases, halve the number of hospital visits a patient needs to make.
