The Tar Heels are off to a hot start on the 2026 recruiting trail, but one area that remains a position of need is the quarterback spot. The Tar Heels are still looking for upgrades on the defensive side of the ball and the team has just added another transfer to their safety room. As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from Florida safety Gregory Smith II, who will have three years of eligibility remaining at the college level. Smith chooses the Tar Heels over Purdue and Miami, the two teams he visited outside his trip to Chapel Hill last week.
