Chatting to a friend in the gym on Saturday morning, I had to smile when he reflected on his father’s career building factories and then winning the contract to demolish them a couple of decades later. We in the media can move even quicker in building them up and knocking them down when it comes to players. Trent Alexander-Arnold can vouch for that.

Ten thoughts from the weekend…1.Impressive life of Bryan. Mbeumo has six goals in seven games for Brentford this season, has one of the most clinical penalty techniques around (six in six) and yet rarely gets linked with other clubs. Yet. He’s only 25, can play on the right as well as at centre-forward, and can play on his own upfront or in a partnership (as with Ivan Toney). As well as his technique, the Cameroon international’s work ethic is immense.

Some thoughts on the weekend…. 1.Swede dreams are made of this. Dejan Kulusevski was exceptional at Old Trafford, creating and finishing and relishing a more central role that also allows Ange Postecoglou to accommodate Brennan Johnson on Spurs’ right. Kulusevski’s powerful dribbling and positive passing are enhanced by a hunger to contribute fully out of possession.
