HMV Retail Ltd., previously known as HMV Group plc, is a company focused on entertainment retail, operating in both the United Kingdom and Hong Kong. It was once listed on the London Stock Exchange and was part of the FTSE Fledgling Index. The very first HMV store was launched by the Gramophone Company on Oxford Street in 1921, and the HMV brand also became associated with television and radio equipment starting in the 1930s. The company's retail operations started to grow significantly in the 1960s, and in 1998, it was separated from EMI, which had taken over the Gramophone Company, leading to the formation of HMV Group.
