Vernon Turner, it began its broadcasts on March 5, 1979, making it the first Christian FM station in Australia. The station's mission is to "Communicate Hope to transform life, faith, and culture."

It was about 2,500 years ago that the Greek philosopher Socrates made a statement which got him into a lot of trouble. Socrates was considered by many to be the wisest man in ancient Greece. As a teacher, he was stirring up trouble among the Athens aristocracy and especially the youth who were being challenged to think for themselves. He ended up on trial for what he said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. And he was executed. Rather incredible when you think about it.

I started yesterday on the theme, looking at this acronym, WIIFM, thinking about “what’s in it for me?”. In other words, that’s the question that many people are asking. And the Bible has something, I think that’s more relevant, and that is what Jesus said. It’s more blessed to give than receive. That’s in Acts 20:35. So what actually happens when we get a distorted image of our own importance and we see ourselves as the centre of the universe, I think we lose touch really with who we are.

As a child, do you remember your parents telling you that sticks and stones will break your bones, but words can never hurt? Yes, it’s a children’s rhyme that’s often said to help kids deal with harsh words or the torments of other children at school, or you’ve got to take the good with the bad, but adults say now that it’s simply not true. Our memories seem to be wired to remembering the negatives in life rather than the positives. I’ve heard people react. What a ridiculous saying.
