Kathy Boylan is a member of the Dorothy Day Catholic Worker community. Video of her -- "Pope Francis, go to Gaza for God’s sake!" -- last year went viral on Instagram. Pope Francis didn’t do so, after all, he was basically bedridden. But the new pope, Pope Leo XIV is not. He can make a real impact by choosing Gaza as the first place he travels as Pope. Pope Francis of course made many statements condemning Israel’s attack on Gaza, see a few of them below.

The so-called “Abraham Accords” are the most insidious phony name appropriation since “Israel”. I assume Ansar Allah are not suckers, but it's kind of remarkable that they reach a deal with Trump just as he's going to the region. Is his goal to ensure he's not embarrassed by attacks on US targets while he's there? It's also a case of #InterestingTiming that this deal is reached just after Israel bombed Yemen directly.

Sen. Dick Durbin just announced he is finally retiring. After 44 years. He got into Congress by defeating liberal Republican (they had those back then) Rep. Paul Findley in 1982. I am surprised at the number of times I’ve criticized Durbin on twitter/X. He really has been a constant apparatchik, pretending to be decent and cutting down decency time and again. Durbin low key held down the left end of the genocidal duopoly.

One of the best things to watch to keep up with Israel’s genocide is the Electronic Intifada livestream. And one of the best analysts on Gaza is Helena Cobban, whom I’ve happily promoted. She was recently on the show. All seemed to agree that Trump was being “incoherent” in his Gaza policy. I think this misses the point. The point is that all US presidents seem “incoherent” because their stated goals are not their actual goals.
