Indie Game Culture
Indie games are a relatively recent phenomenon in the broader gaming landscape. In the past, before the rise of digital gaming, smaller studios struggled to find a platform to showcase their creations. Without the funding to rival major corporations, many innovative ideas remained unrealized. However, with the emergence of platforms like Steam, especially its Greenlight program, Itch.io, and other digital venues, indie games have flourished. Today, when executed well, indie games have the potential to rival AAA titles and, at times, even outshine them.

Across the indie game field, nothing has managed to be quite as prominent a concept as the crowdfunding process, which usually only goes on when a small team has a great idea that they want you to pay for. This works out often, with games like Shovel Knight, Hat in Time, Hollow Knight, and Undertale coming from Kickstarter campaigns.
