Since the Pokémon phenomenon emerged in 1996, the franchise has been winning over more and more players and building a worldwide fanbase. Given that success, it was only natural that many creators would want to produce their own takes on the monster catcher genre. Some found moderate success, others not so much, but none ever came close to Pokémon.

As a Brazilian, I grew up knowing the gaming industry as luxury entertainment that was not accessible to everyone. Things got better, and more people can play now, but still, it's a far cry from ideal. One growing area is the hosting of game-focused events. In Brazil, we have BGS, the biggest gaming expo in Latin America, and Big Festival, which last year turned into Gamescom Latam.

For a while now, whenever a new turn-based RPG joins the party, it seems like it has to come up with some kind of gimmick to please both new audiences and longtime fans. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a masterclass on how to handle side content in RPGs. Right from the start, the game lets you explore an overworld, visit dungeons, and face optional enemies. Among these enemies are Chromatic Nevrons, stronger versions of their regular counterparts. Some of them, like the Chromatic Lancelier, can be defeated on your first encounter, while others are better left for later on.
