Uber has admitted it made a mistake in not initially providing a refund to a Sydney man who had video footage of a delivery driver stealing his $140 groceries, which included nappies. Video footage from a doorbell camera emerged this week of an UberEats worker placing bags of groceries in front of a house in Sydney, taking a photo of it for proof it was delivered, and then placing the bags back on his scooter and driving off.

The cost and frequency of Australian ransomware attacks has continued to soar with advocacy and growth champion Australian Cyber Network (ACN) reporting more than two thirds of domestic organisations have experienced an attack. Of the 69 per cent of businesses hit by ransomware in the past five years, the ACN observed a staggering 84 per cent opted to pay the ransom.

A high-stakes antitrust trial centred on Meta’s acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp has kicked off this week with CEO Mark Zuckerberg taking the stand to deny his company had engaged in a “buy-or-bury scheme”. The landmark trial, filed by the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in 2020, began in Washington on Monday, with Zuckerberg the first witness called. The FTC has accused Meta of operating an illegal monopoly by acquiring competitors Instagram and WhatsApp for inflated prices.

Australia’s peak science and tech body has warned the Coalition’s plans to shut down Labor's $15 billion manufacturing fund would put a handbrake on the nation's innovation efforts. Citing Coalition sources, the Australian Financial Review last week reported that if the Coalition wins the upcoming May election it plans to redirect all remaining capital allocated to the National Reconstruction Fund (NRF), totalling about $14.5 billion.
