Inside The Newsroom

Inside The Newsroom

When I joined The Texas Tribune in Austin nearly three years ago, I expected to begin a full-time fellowship. As a curious British guy in the heart of Texas and Tornado Alley, I was excited, even though the January heat was intense! However, upon arriving at the newsroom that day, I quickly learned that the "full-time" fellowship was actually just a part-time role, requiring only 20 hours a week. This revelation left me with a significant financial gap and a wave of anxiety. How was I going to support myself for the next five months? Even though I felt like crying on the shoulders of strangers on 6th Street, I decided not to wallow in self-pity. Instead, I realized it was the perfect time to launch the podcast I had been contemplating for months. Initially titled The Daniel Levitt Podcast—though I should have thought twice about that—Inside The Newsroom has since evolved into a newsletter, a job and internship board, and a thriving community of journalists, academics, and students from over 20 countries eager to explore deeper topics and foster curiosity about the world.
