(April 16, 2025) — Congratulations to winners and finalists in the 2024 IRE Awards. The annual contest showcases exemplary work by members of Investigative Reporters and Editors from the past year. Awards will be presented at the 2025 IRE Conference in New Orleans on Saturday, June 21. Since 1979, the IRE Awards have recognized outstanding watchdog journalism. The IRE Contest Committee selected this year’s winners from more than 540 entries across 19 categories.

FellowshipsThanks to our sponsors, we have funding available for fellowships for about 60 people wishing to attend IRE25. These fellowships provide free registration, four nights in the conference hotel, a $500 travel stipend and a one-year IRE membership or renewal. Applications are due April 1. Learn more here.

IRE will match mentors with mentees and arrange for them to meet at a breakfast during the conference.

Total Newsroom Training provides two days of intensive, personalized training for small and medium-sized newsrooms dedicated to watchdog journalism.

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Investigative Reporters and Editors, when a group of intrepid journalists from across the country gathered to create a unique nonprofit organization dedicated to investigative journalism. To celebrate the milestone, IRE is planning a series of events and special deals, including a bargain membership rate for retired journalists.
