Jessamine Journal
The Jessamine Journal was established in 1873 by J.M. Parish in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. Over its first hundred years, the newspaper changed hands multiple times. It has been led by several notable journalists from Kentucky, such as C.W. Metcalf, Col. H.M. McCarty, and Edgar E. Easterly Jr., who served as an Associated Press editor and press secretary to Governor A.B. “Happy” Chandler during the 1950s. In 1956, Easterly acquired both the Journal and The Jessamine News-Week, merging them the next year. In 1990, his son sold the weekly publication to Republic Newspapers Inc. based in Knoxville, Tennessee. Then, in 2001, Advocate Communications, a part of Schurz Communications, took over the newspaper. Most recently, Boone Newspapers, Inc. became the owner in early 2016.
