The European Commission published on Wednesday its first list of critical minerals strategic projects located outside of the EU, with 13 awards, Kallanish reports. The selected projects are located across the Americas, Africa, Europe, Central Asia and Oceania and require a capital investment of €5.5 billion ($6.3 billion). Complementing the 47 EU-based projects selected in March, the new developments will also benefit from facilitated access to finance and contacts with relevant offtakers.

UK Steel has welcomed the US decision to keep tariffs on UK-origin steel imports at 25%, but says the US-UK deal agreed in May must be implemented urgently to remove tariffs completely – as well as uncertainty. US President Donald Trump signed on Tuesday the proclamation that increases the levy on steel and aluminium products from 25% to 50%, effective 4 June (see Kallanish passim).

Swedish carmaker Polestar said Wednesday it will deliver its first South Korea-made Polestar 4 to customers in the US in the autumn of 2025, Kallanish reports. The company opened its order book for the 2026 model of the all-electric performance SUV coupe at a starting price of $56,400 in the US. This does not include a $1,400 delivery fee. The BEV, which will be shipped from South Korea, will be subject to a 25% auto import tariff.
