    A school’s headteacher has come up with a three-point plan to protect the safety of children who cross a busy Keswick road. Simon Jackson says the parents of pupils who have to negotiate the traffic on Crosthwaite Road on their walk to and from Keswick School have expressed serious concerns about the welfare of their children.

    An instructor at the Calvert Stables on the outskirts of Keswick has celebrated 25 years of long service at the British Horse Society and Riding for the Disabled Association-approved riding centre. Becky Roberts was presented with a bespoke long-service certificate from stable manager Lou Hogan which featured the horses Fudge and Annie, the newest edition to the team, overlooking Derwentwater.

    Threlkeld’s community-owned cafe has reopened after refurbishment, with an event celebrating its expanded kitchen, menu and catering offer. The Coffee Shop is a community interest company wholly owned by the charity that owns the village hall. It gives preference to local people for employment, local suppliers for materials and uses Fairtrade products where possible. All profits are given back to the village hall and wider community – including Threlkeld CE Primary School and local sports teams.

    Former rock star turned gardener Kim Wilde will be exhibiting her Cumbrian Fellside Garden at Chelsea Flower Show in May, with the help of Honister Slate Mine in Borrowdale, whose owner Mark Weir is supplying the green slate for her showpiece. As part of her whistle stop tour of some of the finest gardens in Cumbria – including Brantwood at Coniston, the home of John Ruskin — Kim also travelled to Honister Slate Mine, now successfully operated by Mark after being shut down for a number of years.

    The driver of this vehicle got into a bit of a pickle when their car ended up balancing precariously on a wall at the Spar filling station on Penrith Road in Keswick. This picture was sent to the Reminder by Roger Blaxall who was visiting the town from Ormskirk. Police say that no injuries were sustained but the driver has been reported for driving without due care and attention. They were initially alerted to a car having crashed into a barrier and wall at the garage.
