LINCOLN–(KFOR June 4)–Governor Jim Pillen on Wednesday morning signed into law LB89, the Stand With Women Act. The bill requires that students in K-12 and post-secondary schools participate on sports teams that correspond to their sex as defined in law. Omaha Senator Kathleen Kauth is the sponsor of LB 89 and said she talked to a wide-range of people about this issue, including feminist organizations and the Catholic Conference, adding this was an issue they all agreed about.

LINCOLN–(KFOR June 4)–An arrest has been made in an arson case from May 15, where a stolen 2013 Cadillac Escalade was allegedly set on fire and spread to three other vehicles in the parking lot in the 9000 block of Andermatt Drive. Lincoln Police say 31-year-old Christal Curry was arrested Tuesday at her home for third-degree arson, criminal mischief and false reporting.

LINCOLN–(KFOR/Nebraska Examiner June 4)–A Lincoln businessman has tossed his name into the running for the University of Nebraska Board of Regents District 1 seat, which represents most of the Lincoln metro area. The Nebraska Examiner reports that 29-year-old Brent Comstock is running for the seat held by Regent Tim Clare, who announced recently he’s not seeking a fourth, six-year term. Comstock is the CEO of Lincoln-based marketing firm BCom, a company he started a decade ago.

OMAHA–(KFOR June 4)–Omaha State Senator John Cavanaugh is running for Nebraska’s second-district Congressional seat next year. This follows two months of speculation. Cavanaugh joins three other candidates in the running, with the winner of the May 2026 Democratic primary moving on to the November 2026 general election. Cavanaugh’s father was Nebraska’s second-district Congressman in the late 1970s. His sister, Machaela Cavanaugh, also serves in the Nebraska Legislature.
