    Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in Cleveland, Creek, Dewey, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, Oklahoma, Pawnee, Payne, Pottawatomie, Roger Mills and Stephens counties following Friday’s wildfires. Saturday morning, Governor Stitt provided an update on the damage and destruction left behind after the fires. Gov. Stitt said at least 170,000 acres had burned and nearly 300 structures were damaged or destroyed. Stitt said his own farm house near Luther was even destroyed in the fires.

    Friday’s strong winds caused power poles to fall on 76th Street North between Main and Mingo in Owasso. Police told KRMG a transformer blew upon hitting the ground and that sparked a grass fire on the side of the road. OPD said the fire department was able to get the fire out before it could spread. Police said 76th Street North was closed until the power company completed repairs. The road has since reopened. Much of Oklahoma is under a High Wind Warning and a Red Flag Warning until 8pm Friday.

Consumer Reports says B-A does especially well in the category of safety with both low violent crime rates and low property crime rates. And the magazine says the city’s low housing costs make it one of the more affordable cities in the South.
