UPDATE 3:20 P.M.: SUSPECT’S NAME RELEASEDOn Wednesday, June 18, at approximately 1:54 AM, Jamestown Police were dispatched to 1818 Western Park Village on a domestic disturbance call. According to Maj. Blinsky, a female resident reported feeling unsafe in her home due to a male who was allegedly using drugs, yelling at her, and had threatened to kill her. The woman also indicated there were multiple firearms in the residence that the suspect could access.
Tornado Sighted in Regent, ND

The first confirmed tornado of the year in North Dakota was reported on Tuesday, June 18. The cyclone appeared southwest of Regent, with pictures taken by onlookers showing a narrow, diagonal cylinder stretching from dark grey clouds towards farmlands. The funnel cloud’s appearance was brief, and did not cause any significant damage. High winds and storms have continued to impact North Dakota, with the state seeing wind speeds above 90 miles per hour in the past few days.
Minot Hires New Police Chief

Minot has a new Police Chief. The City Council approved the hiring of Michael Frye to the position he will officially take in mid-July. Frye previously served as the police chief at Bismarck State College and a lieutenant with the Minneapolis Police Department. He replaces John Klug, who agreed to a separation settlement with the city following an external investigation into sexual harassment claims. The city council also approved hiring Dale Plessas as Frye’s Deputy Chief of Police.
Grand Forks Correctional Officer Arrested for Allegedly Smuggling Cell Phone Into Jail

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a correctional officer accused of smuggling contraband. The GFSCO says 42 year-old Juan Lopez is an employee of the county jail and was caught smuggling an electronic device to an inmate. A search of a cell allegedly uncovered a cell phone and charger. Juan Lopez has been arrested with charges pending. The Sherriff’s Office has opened an investigation and is asking the anybody with information to contact them.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the collision happened on Cass County Road 26 near Hunter when vehicles going in the opposite direction impacted after one of the cars had drifted past the center stripe. Three total people were transported to Fargo hospitals with injuries.
NDHP Identifies Man Who Died In Potato Truck Collision

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says they’ve identified the man killed in a collision with a potato truck in Cass County earlier this week. NDHP says 34 year-old Eric Comer of Fort Myers, Florida died after crashing into a semi truck carrying potatoes at the junction of Cass County Highways 18 and 26. Officials say Comer was not wearing a seat belt.

Trail For Man Accused of Shooting Family on Spirit Lake Reservation Delayed Until November

The man accused of killing several members of his family will go to trail in November. Jonnie Gaking is accused of killing his sister and her three year old daughter in a shooting on the Spirit Lake Reservation in Tokio, North Dakota on March 4th. Gaking also allegedly shot his mother, who survived. A fourth person who was at the residence and heard the shooting called law enforcement. The Bureau of Indian Affairs responded and eventually apprehended a fleeing Gaking, according to documents.
Former NDSU Football Player Sentenced on Drug Trafficking Charges

A former North Dakota State University football player has been sentenced to federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking operation. 30 year-old Colter Pritchard was apprehended by police during a traffic stop on February 14, 2024 where law enforcement found more than ten pounds of cocaine and a handgun. An investigation revealed that Pritchard had helped traffic over $500,000 of cocaine in the span of a year.
Police Searching For Fargo Man Who Fled Tuesday Arrest Attempt

Police are looking for a 27-year-old Fargo man who they say has multiple outstanding warrants and fled arrest. Shelby Whitt is wanted by Fargo Police for fleeing the scene of an accident and felony reckless endangerment. A search in South Fargo on Tuesday, June 10 without apprehension led to police issuing a public plea for help. They say Whitt has an extensive criminal history including over 30 criminal convictions.
