According to Maj. Blinsky, a female resident reported feeling unsafe in her home due to a male who was allegedly using drugs, yelling at her, and had threatened to kill her. The woman also indicated there were multiple firearms in the residence that the suspect could access.

The first confirmed tornado of the year in North Dakota was reported on Tuesday, June 18. The cyclone appeared southwest of Regent, with pictures taken by onlookers showing a narrow, diagonal cylinder stretching from dark grey clouds towards farmlands. The funnel cloud’s appearance was brief, and did not cause any significant damage. High winds and storms have continued to impact North Dakota, with the state seeing wind speeds above 90 miles per hour in the past few days.

Minot has a new Police Chief. The City Council approved the hiring of Michael Frye to the position he will officially take in mid-July. Frye previously served as the police chief at Bismarck State College and a lieutenant with the Minneapolis Police Department. He replaces John Klug, who agreed to a separation settlement with the city following an external investigation into sexual harassment claims. The city council also approved hiring Dale Plessas as Frye’s Deputy Chief of Police.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve arrested a correctional officer accused of smuggling contraband. The GFSCO says 42 year-old Juan Lopez is an employee of the county jail and was caught smuggling an electronic device to an inmate. A search of a cell allegedly uncovered a cell phone and charger. Juan Lopez has been arrested with charges pending. The Sherriff’s Office has opened an investigation and is asking the anybody with information to contact them.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the collision happened on Cass County Road 26 near Hunter when vehicles going in the opposite direction impacted after one of the cars had drifted past the center stripe. Three total people were transported to Fargo hospitals with injuries.
