City leaders, hospital administration, and legislators are working on a plan for the new building to have 140 beds on a 30-acre campus next to the current facility.   The new hospital would house 18 more people than the old building.

The North Dakota House has failed to pass the so-called ‘Truth-in-Sentencing’ bill. Senate Bill 2128 passed in the upper chamber, and would have required inmates to serve at least half of their total sentence before coming eligible for parole or early release. Additional amendment to the bill would have also increased penalties for assaulting or fleeing law enforcement officers. The failure of the bill followed a ‘Do Not Pass’ recommendation from the House Judiciary Committee.
